DIXIE'S Animal Training

Positively Good Dog Training for All Ages©

Who (What) is DIXIE'S Animal Training (formerly Puppy Pals) ?

Over 15 years ago, two dog training pals, Jane Wittstock, D.V.M. and Pam Sheehan, began talking of a new idea they had heard about —training classes for puppies under 6 months of age. Jane and Pam thought it was an excellent idea. They didn't understand why owners had to wait 6 months before they could come to dog school. Wasn't it better to teach puppies from the very beginning —before bad habits set in? So, with a firm belief in the concept of training young puppies, they formed the first all-breed Kindergarten Puppy Training (KPT) classes in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area. Soon thereafter Puppy Pals was born.

Since 1990, Puppy Pals has been setting the standards for dog training in the Tulsa area.  Classes for all ages of dogs were added and soon after that Puppy Pals became one of the first schools to use agility obstacles in their classes. Puppy Pals is the first dog school in the area to throw out “slip collars” (also known, and used, as choke collars) for a more humane, as well as more effective, method of dog training —the use of positive reinforcement with the science of operant conditioning. (For a wealth of information about operant conditioning visit our Hot “Dog” Links page.)

In 2004, Puppy Pals moved all training classes to our 20-acre location near Owasso.  Facilities include a 2100 sq.ft. training building and a 100'x120' outdoor agility arena.  Our new name - DIXIE'S Animal Training - was chosen to reflect the wide range of training that is available - it's not just puppies anymore!!!  (The name was also chosen in honor of my very first dog - Dixie.)    Behavior consultation is also available.  Private instruction can also be arranged for other species - that's what is so great about operant conditioning...   it works on all animals!

DIXIE'S Animal Training is once again leading the pack by offering the most up-to-date training methods. It's not just good training.  “It's a whole new way of doing dog school!”

We believe DIXIE'S is your best choice for dog training. Classes or private instructions are available for puppies, adult obedience, agility, tracking, canine musical freestyle (doggie dancing'), and herding.  The herding arenas are on the 7 acre site directly across the street (west) of the training building.

Please look around our site -   we think you to will agree that DIXIE'S Animal Training is:
