Dancing with Dogs

Also known as canine musical freestyle, this dog sport is being introduced to Oklahoma by DIXIE'S Animal Training !!!  This is a fun way to train your dog and get some exercise in the process.  It's a great way to teach your dog new things just for fun or with the goal of giving demonstrations to children, nursing homes, and local events.  We are also working to bring freestyle competitions to the area.

We are fortunate to have national freestyle competitor Kris Hurley from Oklahoma City giving us guidance.

DIXIE'S  drop-in sessions are open training periods with instructions given as requested.   Sessions are Monday evenings at 8 pm.  E-mail Jane by Sunday to confirm if you are coming that week.   Cost is $5.00/night.

WORKSHOP with KRIS HURLEY

Puppy Pals periodically hosts a workshop featuring Kris Hurley to help those who have started training for musical freestyle.   This workshop focuses on putting the moves that your dog has learned (or has started to learn) to music (choreography).  Kris is amazing to watch - she can 'see' the moves to the music and fits it to each team.  You can learn more about Kris at her website - www.freestyledogs.com.

The next workshop is pending.   Give me a call (371-6959) to get on the waiting list.

Competition

Oklahoma Freestyle Dogs has sponsored two freestyle competitions to Oklahoma!!!  The first-ever Oklahoma WCFO (World Canine Freestyle Organization) competition was held in Tulsa on September 30, 2006.  We had some wonderful first time competitors.  There are also video competitions which make it easy to compete - videotape your routine and send it in.

On April 28, 2007, the first Oklahoma Bronze Bar (a proficiency test) was held in Oklahoma City.  All the Oklahoma competitors passed this test.  We look forward to having more proficiency tests, as well as regular freestyle, and canine dressage competitions.  Again, these tests can be taken via videotape.

Competitions and the requirements are discussed in the drop-in sessions.  You can also get more information at www.wcfo.org, the website for the World Canine Freestyle Organization.
