HERDING

Instinct Tests

    DIXIE'S sponsors AHBA (American Herding Breed Association*) instinct tests 3 to 4 times a year.  In an instinct test, the judge determines if the dog (on that day) demonstrates the desire to herd the stock (sheep or goats).  The first requirements are that the dog is under control at the starting point, shows a sustained interest in the stock, and will circle the stock in both directions.  The next instinct test will be August 31   (Sunday -  5 pm).  Cost is $35.

Herding Classes

   Dogs must either have prior experience with stock or have passed an instinct test before enrolling in class.

    There are a few spaces available in the current herding classes.   These are 8 week sessions (2 hours each week).  Cost is $90.
